A BIRDING TOURIST'S GUIDE TO MAJORCA

2st edition in English // Rebassa, Manchado, Torrens, Oriola // p.v.p. 18 €

In late 2008, being the 1st edition of this book in process layout, an impressive group of a hundred Griffon Vultures arrived to Majorca from the Iberian Peninsula, driven by strong westerly winds. In 2012, for the first time in history, the Griffon Vulture formerly nested on the island. Currently, besides Griffon Vultures and other raptors, also can be seen in Mallorca Bonelli's Eagle, a species that neither appeared collected in the 1st edition of the guide since it was reintroduced later.

Other changes have also happened recently in the island's avifauna. New species have been cited as Ficedula semitorquata, Emberiza caesia or Larus cachinnans (some not mentioned before in Spain, reinforcing the idea of the great importance of Mallorca to observe rarities), and other birds have changed their status. This would apply, for example, to the Robin, before wintering and that has only recently colonized Mallorca as a breeding.

In this 2nd edition of the guide are reflected all these and other changes. It has also taken the opportunity to update and improve maps and directions, and include new photographs (26) of the avifauna and Majorcan geography. The result is an improved edition that while maintaining the aspect ratio and number of initial pages, presents a more complete and updated information.

The 1st edition of the guide sold out in 3 years (with sales of nearly 4,000 copies), and has received rave reviews by both readers and specialized companies. All this fills us with satisfaction and drives us to continuous improvement of this work. We hope that this 2nd edition of the Guide to Birdwatching in Mallorca remains equally useful and valued by those who use it in their ornithological visits to an island that, despite being so visited and known, it does offer pleasant surprises .
